About Me

Who is Peter Usagi?

One Sentence:

I’m Peter Usagi…a writer, warrior, wanderer, and transmedia storyteller.

One Paragraph:

My name is Peter Usagi.  I’m a writer, warrior, and wanderer: a transmedia storyteller. I’m an M16 wielding, tea drinking, battle hardened, science fiction reading (and writing), terrorist hunting, anime watching, RPG playing (and firing), philosophizing, man of action. I’m on a journey to discover the hidden links between human nature and mythic narrative. Join me on my continuing quest to discover a modern mythology, as I travel Down the Rabbit Hole.  My kung-fu is strong; and my science-fiction is going to save the world. Please be patient, while I finish writing it…

Full Bio:

Peter Usagi is a transmedia storyteller and scribe of modern mythology. In 1999, he received a B.A. in English Language and Literature (with a concentration in Creative Writing) from the University of Maryland, College Park.  He was also only a few credits shy of a B.S. in Socio-Cultural Anthropology (with a concentration in Oral Narratives, Mythology, and Folklore), when he eventually realized not all of life’s lessons can be learned in a classroom. Seeking a stable career to take care of his family, he enlisted in the United States Army. In the fall of 2002 he graduated from basic training at Ft. Benning, and received training to fix computers and electronics at Ft. Gordon. During the next several years, he took advantage of the infrequent lulls in training and deployments to work on his fiction. Frustrated with a lack of critical feedback, he created an online writing circle in 2008 while deployed to Iraq. The Fighting Writing Fish is likely the very first writing workshop ever founded in a war zone. It now has members from all over the globe who write in war zones, universities, and in living rooms. Now a broadcast journalist and combat correspondent for the Army, he’s working on his masters degree in New Media Journalism from Full Sail University.
